Adapt + Nurture Through Times of Change

These past few weeks have been a whirlwind. When will it all stop? At this time we really don't know. But what we do know is how we choose to adapt and pivot during these times of uncertainty.

In all honesty, it has been a lot to take in. I think a lot of us have needed to take more breaks from social media and the news to recalibrate and find a new normalcy within our family structure and home life. Anxiety has heightened for many. Our emotions go up and down almost daily. Right now, a lot of us are yearning to feel nurtured and less triggers from the news — whatever that form that looks like.

We are now in our first month of social distancing and staying at home. My husband is still working outside of the house most days which brings its own level of stress and complications — 12 hours straight with kiddos day in and day out is no joke! I still can't get into a flow of things, but I am trying to keep some routine for the kids including the homeschooling set up for my 6 year old. Keeping two young and very active children busy, comforted and, in all honesty being the referee so they don't pull each others eyes out, has ignited me into mama survival mode. Gosh, to think just over a month ago we had challenges juggling all of the demands of life while still going on with our days, driving the kids to school, grocery shopping (without the social distancing measures), swimming lessons and still felt we didn't have enough time in the day. We have a whole new perspective of what it is to truly SIMPLIFY.

My own identity as a women, mother, business owner, wife is yet again being redefined. A few new projects that were about to come into fruition have, yet again, needed to be paused and shifted. Currently, like many of you, I'm learning to fully embrace this new full time SAHM life on a completely different level.

While we are all experiencing these new uncharted times, it is important to know that we are all in this together. We are feeling all the feelings, going through the ups and downs, facing the fear of uncertainty all while raising our children, trying to keep a sense of normalcy and routine in the home.

If there is any silver lining in all of this, it is teaching us to SLOW DOWN. We are learning ways to simplify in our lives — reminding ourselves that less is actually more. We are forced to ground ourselves, listen to our inner voice, face our emotions and truly be humble. We are given the opportunity to ignite our creativity — whether it is at home with the kids or within our businesses. We are relying on technology in a completely different form (hello Zoom!). This is an opportunity for many of us to pay attention to what has been tugging at us for so long — whether it is starting a new project we haven’t been able to do because we have been too stretched or to actually take time to rest and just BE.

Here are a few ways we are finding to be helpful right now as we adapt:

Get Outside!

We can still get outside and enjoy fresh air, listen to the birds chirping, the ocean speaking to us through its waves.

Set up a daily FaceTime schedule

We can still call our friends and family through FaceTime and connect with them.

Daily Gratitude

Finding gratitude every day will pull us through this.

Create a Routine/Schedule

Write out a daily schedule each morning for what you have planned for that day. Create pockets of quiet play, school work (if needed), screen-time, and outside play. If your kids are old enough, talking it through with them and having them participate in some things they may want to do are great ways to get them involved.

Enjoy the Live Instagram + Virtual Classes

There are so many great classes being offered both on live instagram feeds and also through fitness groups where we may not have been able to experience before because of location, time etc. Supporting these small businesses right now is a bonus and a lot of them are offering special prices.

Take care of yourself Mama 💋

Remember to give yourself the grace, rest and space you need right now to nurture yourself.
